Macarons, dainty and colourful bite-sized cream-filled French cookies that have been lining the counters of chic patisseries here, are back in the spotlight after the opening of the famed Parisian brand Laduree at Ngee Ann City last month. The cookies are flown in twice a week from Switzerland, where it has a factory churning them out. Queues for the French confections at Laduree form every day, even though they cost a pretty penny - $3.80 a piece. This is more than the average cost of a macaron at various patisseries here. Prices range from $1.80 to $3 a piece. Some bigger macarons - the size of a Digestive biscuit - cost at least $7.
