Wong Ah Yoke's Restaurant Review: Wakanui Grill Dining "Order the Rack Of Wakanui Spring Lamb From Canterbury...

What piqued my interest in Wakanui Grill Dining, a two-month-old steak restaurant in Boat Quay, is that it's an odd progeny. It's an offshoot of a Tokyo restaurant but it specialises in New Zealand meat. Wakanui is, in fact, named after a region in New Zealand known for premium beef, and the restaurant uses a brand of the meat called Ocean beef. It is featured in three of the six main courses available, with cuts of ribeye, sirloin and fillet. I pick a Ribeye ($68 for 500g), even though the Bone-in Ribeye ($128 for 1kg) sounds more promising. Meat with bone attached is usually more flavourful. But 500g is about as much as my dining companion and I can handle as we want to try other dishes; 1kg is simply too intimidating, even discounting the weight of the bone. The grilled slab of beef smells lovely when the server places it on the table. He then whisks it away for slicing...
