When you're hit by a craving for fishball noodles in the dead of the night, here's one place you can go to - Joo Seng Food Place. The 24-hour coffeeshop, next to the round-the-clock Prime supermarket, faces Upper Aljunied Road and Sennett Estate. It's an ideal stop for a bite, after ghost-hunting in the supposedly haunted Woodleigh/Mt Vernon area nearby or partying. The heat of Rui Ji's chilli-hot Mee Pok should wake you up from your stupor from drunkenness or things you saw in the dark. It's one of the most ordinary looking fishball noodles I've ever seen, pale with fishballs, slices of fishcake and a smidgen of minced pork. What happened to the chilli that I had asked for? The sauce was actually buried under the small pile of noodles. As I tossed to mix everything well, the noodles turned orangey-red. Oh boy! It was hot! Hotter than most Teochew fishball noodles.
