or Hell's Kitchen? I get a serious case of envy: their fast-chopping skills, cooking abilities (how are the contestants not professional chefs yet?) and their fancy equipment. This year, I vow to hone my cooking skills and to not spend more money on expensive kitchenware I couldn't afford in the first place. No, I will not be dropping everything on my plate and flying myself to Le Cordon Bleu. Instead I will attempt to find different uses for common wares found in and around the home, to rival those of the fancy equipment. This month, I found a way to make professional-looking chocolate shavings easy. In culinary schools, students are taught to grip the knife and angle it in a safe way before shredding the chocolate block. Consistent amount of strength is needed to achieve the uniformity in all curls. Truth be told, I found that method to be tedious, tiring and a bit time ...
