I had a wonderful time talking to two lovely people today. They have just arrived from Montreal it is their first time in Asia. The guy on the left is Aymeric Pasquier who happens to be the son of the founder of Diner en Blanc and the lady is Sandy Safi. Both of them co-founded Diner en Blanc International and they have come to Singapore to take part in the event tomorrow. Now, just in case you don't know what I am talking about, you can read about the Diner en Blanc controversy here and the video report by WSJ is posted below. On the day I wrote my post about Diner en Blanc, I received an email of apology from Clemens Chiang, the local organizer. In it, he expressed deep regret for the mistakes they have made which resulted in the whole mess. That was last Saturday. I have been an international events manager before. In order to work on such a big event, you really need to get a fantastic events management company who has worked with international events before and also a widely known public relations company who has worked international events before. As an international events manager, you have to be on the ball on every single detail. The media and what you put forth to the public is of utmost important. In this aspect, the local organizers should have crafted a public letter for the media and ask the media to specifically use these sentences or words to publicize the whole event. There will be miscommunication on the way but it is up to the organizers and its PR company to correct the miscommunication and not let such a meaningful event play out so badly. This reflects equally badly for the organizers and the PR company who just scooted off after things turned bad.
