| One of the oldest wanton mee stalls in Joo Chia and Katong, some regulars have complained about standards dropping over the years. Are the complaints valid? Here's what we know. The stall moved from Dunman Food Centre to its current premises in 2012 and owner Thomas Ng (Mr. Eng himself) died of a sudden heart attack a year later. The char siew (barbecued pork) and the noodles are no longer made in-house but instead bought from suppliers to cater to the demand. That being said, Eng’s is still the best when it comes to a particular style of wanton mee, that's made with a lovely lard and pork stock-rich flavour that has a gentle meat sweetness to it. The other two stalls in the area following this style (Dunman Road and to some extent, Fei Fei) has a more basic oil and soy-based dressing. Our only criticism is that more sauce would be nice as it tends to get absorbed quickl...
