Bridging together performance art with abstract drawings, New Orleans-based artist Heather Hansen uses a piece of charcoal and her body’s fluid movements to create beguiling symmetrical patterns on a giant sheet of paper. Watching her create the unplanned pieces is hypnotising. She gracefully cycles through a set of gestures that come to her naturally, smudging the charcoal across the paper in a full loop before lifting away to unveil her completed creation. The resulting works are an ethereal ode to the beauty and capabilities of the human form.
