Interview with Joel, our Sound Art Open Call 2012 recipient!

Zul Mahmod , the curator of The Substation’s Sound Art Open Call 2012 caught up with the recipient, Joel Ong and spoke to him about his project and about his inspirations. ZM: Who is your favorite artist at the moment and why? JO: I have a deep respect for artists who are willing to explore and create works that come from diverse disciplines, so they aren’t necessarily artists who work within sound. That being said, one really interesting sound artist who comes to mind is Jacob Kirkegaard, who has in my opinion made some of the most engaging installations. He does his work at the nexus of art and science, and has a deep sensitivity to the resonance characteristics of the spaces he records and presents in.
