French lovers Pierre et Gilles brought us portrait photography rooted in contemporary pop culture and subcultures. Singaporeans Paul Koh and Michelle Chang created the ‘catmaSutra’ series inspired by their cats. Americans Elizabeth Stephens and Annie Sprinkle put multiple iterations of their love for one another on display. Now, Filipino husband-and-wife team Mariano Ching and Yasmin Sison present ‘Collidoscope’, a culmination of artistic responses to shared space, family life and its emotional undercurrents. With Sison’s large-scale and almost hauntingly luminous paintings of children at play in forests and Ching’s stylised animals and settings burned onto geometric wooden panels, the two disparate methods are united by a strong sense that viewers are experiencing childhood narratives chronicled with disconcertingly adult undertones.
