published on May 30 2011 - 16:38 Known for their secret, strictly after-hours parties, Singapore’s Midnight Shift-ers have just given themselves a day job. Enter Midnight Shift, the label, co-managed by Berlin-based, trend-bucking indie publishers Ibadan Records and driven by local taste-setters and party mavens here. The idea, they say, is to become a self-styled ‘gatekeeper of Asia’s electronic music talent’, providing local house and techno beatsmiths with the opportunity to step out of the bedroom and onto the international circuit. ‘We’re going to put emerging artists and established names on the same platform,’ says 31-year-old Midnight Shift consultant Kavan Spruyt. ‘We met guys from Ibadan last year and they’ve always been super-supportive of us.
