As much as the local scene is growing at the upper levels, there’s also plenty of support from the ground as well – we love how many locally-organised events happen each month, particularly at truly non-profit venues. Duxton’s café/bar/art hangout The Pigeonhole exemplifies this with their programming – among their regular events is a fortnightly open mic night that promotes budding local singers and songwriters. It’s one of the few venues where original music is welcomed and encouraged; covers are actually gently declined. The same creative curation goes into their semi-regular film night Singafilms is – as the name implies – focused on Singaporean filmmakers, much in the same way as The Substation , who hold a monthly short film night.
