This story was first published in The Straits Times on March 15, 2013 AN ELDERLY woman was given 1,000 times the correct amount of radioactive iodine after a doctor got confused over the dose. Madam Jeet Kaur developed a thyroid gland disorder following the error in March 2007 and was later diagnosed with cancer. Two weeks ago, her family reached an out-of-court settlement with Singapore General Hospital (SGH). But they are now attempting to have the case reopened, accusing the hospital of trying to sweep it under the carpet. Her son, aviation company boss Prithpal Singh, has written an open letter to Health Minister Gan Kim Yong, saying that the mistake has led to “a major nightmare for all of us”.
