No more lunch breaks for SGX traders

SINGAPORE: A historic day for trading in Singapore on Monday as the Singapore Exchange officially extended its trading hours by cutting out the traditional hour-and-a-half lunch break. Some 1.46 billion shares worth S$1.73 billion changed hands on the first day of continuous all-day trading. That is higher than the average daily trading volume of 979 million in June. SGX implemented the move to help investors respond to regional market movements and news flows. Analysts said that it is still too early to gauge if the additional 90 minutes will increase trading volumes significantly and if they will have a substantial impact on SGX revenues.
