Singapore may have achieved affluence but we remain immature, says our reader. A sweeping generalisation?

THE courtesy campaign has been around since I was in primary school more than 40 years ago, and its message still has not sunk in. Courtesy is something that has to come from within you and not something that can be taught. Many youngsters still do not offer their seats to the elderly and others who need it more in trains and buses. My sense is that discourteous citizens far outnumber the gracious ones. Singapore may have achieved affluence but we remain immature.
