[TR] Presidential election fixed on 27 August if there is a contest

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has issued the Writ of Election with 17 August being named as Nomination Day for the Presidential Election and 27 August as Polling Day if there is a contest. The Nomination Centre will be at People’s Association at King George’s Avenue. Four potential candidates have already submitted their applications for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to contest the election. They are pro-Singaporean leader Tan Jee Say, former Ayer Rajah MP Dr Tan Cheng Bock, former NTUC Income chief, Tan Kin Lian and PAP-endorsed candidate Tony Tan. Speculation is rife in cyberspace that a contest may not take place to ensure the ‘election’ of Tony Tan as his opponents may not be given a COE by the Presidential Elections Committee (PEC) to contest.
