Ministry of Education explains rationale for 30% pay cut for rehired teachers. Any views? #SGedu

THE Ministry of Education (MOE) values the experience that retired teachers bring to the classroom, and was among the first in the public sector to offer re-employment to them in 2008 ('Rehiring retired teachers: MOE should review pay policy' by Mr Yu Kah Meng; July 27). With all public sector agencies introducing re-employment from last month, MOE's re-employment policy is now aligned to the public sector's re-employment guidelines, which take reference from the Tripartite Guidelines on Re-employment of Older Employees. As a norm, retiring teachers are offered re-employment on the contract adjunct teaching scheme, which is a one-year renewable contract with monthly wages. Under this scheme, which provides certainty of employment up to 65 years of age, retired teachers will be eligible for a year-end engagement bonus, annual increments and other bonuses such as a 13th mont...
