1 per cent bus, train fare hike has triggered a huge debate online. #Singapore #ptc

Reading between the lines, this is what I can perceive from this whole issue: "Operators had reasoned that their applications were due to the increasing operations costs, in spite of efforts to manage costs and increase productivity." This means that those who are hoping for better service, whether due to the fare increase or not, can forget about it. This is because operators are saying that even now, with the sorry state of affairs in the transport industry, they are already not able to manage costs and increase service levels of their current staff, and the 1% is only enough (perhaps not even enough since they asked for the 2.8% cap) to maintain the current sorry status quo. In other words, what this statement is saying is, if you Singaporeans want better service, you will need to give us more than 2.8% increase in fares.
