More than half of Singaporeans surveyed say they expect to switch careers within the next five years

SINGAPORE - Singaporeans are getting restless in their jobs, according to the findings of a survey released yesterday. The global survey conducted by human resources firm Kelly Services - which covered 30 countries - found that more than half of the 900 Singaporean respondents said they expect to switch careers within the next five years. Three in 10 attributed it to the need for higher income. A quarter cited changing personal interests (25 per cent), with the same proportion citing the need for improved work-life balance. The industry sectors in which employees will most likely change their careers are Government, engineering and information technology. Commenting on the finding, Kelly Services managing director (Singapore and Malaysia) Melissa Norman said it is a reflection of shifts in demand for different skills and occupations, as well as changing personal interests ...
