Six submit forms to run for presidency by deadline
APPLICATIONS to run for Singapore's elected presidency closed at 1pm on Saturday. Six hopefuls have filed their forms to the Elections Department by the deadline. They are: former deputy prime minister Tony Tan, 71, former Member of Parliament Tan Cheng Bock, 71, former NTUC Income chief executive Tan Kin Lian, 63, former senior civil servant Tan Jee Say, 57, former JTC Corporation group chief financial officer Andrew Kuan, 57, and private tutor Ooi Boon Ewe, 71. Over the next week, their applications will be scrutinised by the three-member Presidential Elections Committee, which will ultimately decide who is eligible to run. The committee has up to Aug 16, the day before Nomination Day, to announce their decision.
