Cheaper mobile roaming fees in M'sia soon

SINGAPORE: In two months' time consumers would be able to enjoy lower roaming fees between Singapore and Malaysia, according to Singapore's Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts Lui Tuck Yew. Mr Lui was speaking at the opening of the 10th ASEAN Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministers Meeting in Malaysia on Thursday. Mr Lui said the move would benefit the industry in terms of an increase in communication volumes. StarHub said it has been in discussions with IDA on the roaming initiative by the government, while SingTel said in a statement that it awaits the IDA's release of further details on this matter. The move was first mooted in 2008 to improve relations between the two countries.
