Adopt-A-Family to assist and mentor needy

SINGAPORE - About 240 needy families are set to benefit from a new initiative under an Adopt-A-Family scheme. The project is an initiative between the South West Community Development Council and Comcare Local Network. Families in need will come under a mentoring programme which is aimed at helping them through a variety of processes. The half-a-million-dollar programme was officially launched by Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong yesterday. Families will be assisted for up to three years, under mentoring action plans customised to their needs. This includes help for the academic performance of the children in the family, support for their emotional well-being, skills upgrading for breadwinners as well as guidance to help the family get out of their financial straits.
