JAKARTA - Indonesian police confirmed yesterday that fugitive lawmaker Muhammad Nazaruddin was arrested in the Colombian resort city of Cartagena on Sunday. Police spokesman, Inspector General Anton Bachrul Alam, said a joint team - consisting of five people from the Indonesian police, one from the immigration office and another from Interpol - made the arrest, reported Jakarta Post newspaper. A fingerprint test confirmed the identity of the lawmaker, who was a former treasurer of the ruling Democratic Party. "Our team arrested Nazaruddin, who used a fake passport and the name Safarudin," Insp Gen Anton was quoted as saying. He said he hoped that Nazaruddin, who was arrested along with his wife and several other people, could be deported immediately by Colombian police.
