Restaurants come up with convenient food ideas: SINGAPORE : Soaring food prices have become a cause for concern

SINGAPORE : Soaring food prices have become a cause for concern for Chinese restaurants this Lunar New Year. Some are hoping to keep their share of the festive pie by making consumption more convenient. One restaurant has packaged the abalone so that they are ready to be eaten. They even come packed with a bag of soup, making the set a ready-to-eat gift set. The restaurant's customers also span overseas, with a large proportion from China, where these sea delicacies can cost up to S$800 each. At another restaurant, this assortment of delicacies is called "Poon Choi" - a popular festive food gift. Customers buy the baskets in person and present them to their loved ones. However, one outlet has devised a convenient system which uses vouchers instead. Recipients can then exchange the vouchers for the baskets, whenever they like.
