The Online Citizen (TOC), one of Singapore’s top socio-political blog has vowed to continue its contributions to Singapore even if its appeal to the Prime Minister to reverse the decision is rejected. On Monday, the Prime Minister’s Office told the editors of The Online Citizen that the government intended to classify the blog as a political group. In a parallel move, the Media Development Authority (MDA) also wants TOC to register itself under condition 4 of the Schedule to the Broadcasting (Class License) Notification (BCLN). In a statement released on its blog today, TOC said that it is confident in its “ability to continue operating within the framework of the Political Donations Act and stand ready to take up the challenge of being the first website in Singapore to operate as a political association”.
