Singapore AG seeks to strike out lawsuit by a former ISA detainee alleging torture

It also argues that the suit is an abuse of the process of the court.The AGC has asked that the costs of its application be borne by Mr Fernandez. It asked that, should its application to strike out his suit fail, it then be given 14 days to file its defence against his suit. The court now has to set a date to hear the AGC's application and determine if the suit should be struck out. Mr M. Ravi, the lawyer representing Mr Fernandez, declined comment yesterday. He said that he had yet to speak to his client on the latest move by the AGC. Mr Fernandez, 77, initiated legal action against the Government last month, alleging that he was tortured while he was detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) from 1964 to 1973.
