Value of global technology jumps to highest level

SINGAPORE: The average value of mergers and takeovers in global technology jumped last quarter to the highest level since the dot-com boom in the late 1990s. Accounting and services advisor, Ernst & Young, said industry deals totalled US$52.1 billion in the three months to June. That was 92 per cent higher than the first quarter's US$27.1 billion, and 69 per cent more than US$30.8 billion a year earlier. The average value of all deals rose to US$194 million in the June quarter despite the uncertain macroeconomic climate. Ernst & Young's Global Technology M&A report said innovations in cloud computing, smart mobility, Internet and mobile video, smart electricity grids and solar energy led the growth in industry consolidation. It said the strong start to the year portends to increased momentum for more global technology M&A activity in the second half of 2011.
