N. Korea declares 10-year economic plan

SEOUL: North Korea has adopted a 10-year economic development plan and launched a new government agency to lead the campaign, Pyongyang said Saturday. The official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the cabinet had adopted a "10-Year State Strategy Plan for Economic Development" and decided to establish the State General Bureau for Economic Development. "This governmental body will handle all issues arising in implementing state strategy projects for economic development," it said. "This step was taken at a time when miracles and innovations are being performed in the socialist economic construction every day" under the leadership of the North's leader Kim Jong-Il, the report added.
