Asia stocks up early at end of rocky week

HONG KONG: Asian stocks rose in early trade Friday following rallies on Wall Street and in Europe, but dealers said the market remained volatile after a rollercoaster week. Tokyo gained 0.17 percent by the break, Hong Kong rose 1.47 percent and Sydney jumped 1.40 percent while Shanghai added 0.65 percent and Seoul was 1.04 percent higher. Taipei put on 0.85 percent. Regional investors took their lead from the United States and Europe, where equities markets posted solid gains, but against a background of intense volatility and lingering global uncertainty. Shares globally have swung wildly since the head of the European Commission said last Thursday that the eurozone debt crisis had likely spread into other economies from those on the periphery of the bloc.
