Hit-and-run suspect arrested after hitting taxi driver, 72

A 29-year-old man suspected of committing a hit-and-run was arrested on Friday morning in the second such accident to happen over the past four days. He allegedly collided into an elderly taxi driver yesterday morning around 1.20am on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) after Eng Neo Avenue. He did not stop driving. 72-year-old Foo Ching Fwee had stopped his taxi along the road shoulder of the PIE to get a plastic bag from his boot for his passenger, who had felt like vomiting, when he was hit. The impact of the crash flung his body several metres away onto a grass verge next to the shoulder. He sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead on the spot.
