The Housing And Development Board (HDB) is raising this ceiling - unchanged for the past 17 years - to $10,000 from the current $8,000. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced this at the National Day Rally on Sunday night. Mr Lee emphasised that housing is 'a key expression' of putting Singaporeans first and acknowledged concerns of young families who worry about affording a home. He identified one group, who are earning just below the HDB income ceiling as 'most worried'. There are more of such couples as incomes have gone up and people are also marrying later, he said.
