Low-income elderly and needy to benefit from revision to Primary Care

In a bid to help needy Singaporeans with outpatient medical costs in Singapore, more will be able to benefit from the Primary Care Partnership Scheme (PCPS), as the Government seeks to lower the qualifying age from 65 to 40 years old, and raise the income ceiling to include more patients. Most of those eligible for the scheme are the low-income elderly with chronic ailments as well as the disabled, and these revisions to the scheme come as Singapore faces a rapidly aging population, a group that the Government will focus on, as outlined by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during his English and Mandarin speeches at the National Day Rally. This trend would mean the elderly with chronic diseases or who require long term care, such as those with dementia or are bedridden, can become a heavy burden to their families, he added.
