Committee to review university education pathways

SINGAPORE: The Education Ministry (MOE) said it will set up a committee to study and recommend ways to expand the university sector. This is to provide more opportunities and pathways for Singaporeans to obtain a university education. By 2015, around 14,000 Singaporeans, or 30 per cent of each Primary One cohort, will have places in one of the publicly-funded universities. And beyond that, the Prime Minister, in his National Day rally speech said university intakes should rise further, as the Singapore economy needs more graduates. The Committee to Review University Education Pathways Beyond 2015 will be chaired by the Minister of State for Education, Lawrence Wong. It will study feasible models and strategies, including looking at international trends, and examining the educational pathways leading up to university.
