(TODAY) Three more union clusters back Dr Tony Tan

SINGAPORE - Three more union clusters have endorsed Dr Tony Tan as their preferred candidate for the elected presidency. They are the transport and logistics services cluster, the marine and machinery engineering cluster, and the infocomm and media cluster. The three clusters together represent around 112,000 members. The infocomm and media cluster says the support for Dr Tan is because of his role in making Singapore a highly-networked nation. It says Dr Tan has had a hand in creating an environment in which IT has become a part of Singaporeans' daily lives. It says in 1980, Dr Tan, then Education Minister, helmed the committee on national computerisation as its chairman - to address the challenge of a serious manpower shortage in the computer industry.
