MTL learning to be more interactive

The learning of mother tongue is set to become more interactive, both oral and written. For example, students will be watching videos instead of looking at picture cards during their PSLE oral exams. They will also learn through songs and leverage more on infocomm technology tools. The aim is to enthuse students and bring language alive. Examination formats will also be changed to assess students on their interaction skills. For example, getting them to answer written questions in a dialogue, testing students on email responses and using computer-based writing. There will also be greater use of IT. For example, students can use the computer for written papers at the secondary and junior college levels in selected national exams. To track progress, there will be a set of "proficiency descriptors" which state the language proficiency skills students are expected to acquire a...
