In the final part of our interview series with local restaurateurs, we speak to Bjorn Shen, chef and owner of Artichoke , a "deviant Middle Eastern" cafe and bar on Middle Road. Opened since 2010, the casual eatery tucked behind Sculpture Square has become a firm favourite with diners who enjoy its unpretentious atmosphere, hearty dishes and devil-may-care attitude. Its Facebook description says it all: "We love doing things differently, and hate conforming to so-called 'norms'. Communal plates, cool music, chummy service, no pretentious bullshit, nuff said." For the uninitiated, expect friendly service but don't expect to be pandered to, which is exactly how Shen likes it.
