A new 100 gigabit-per-second (100GB) submarine cable system will connect the UAE, Oman, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Singapore, and will be ready by the end of next year, according to a media statement issued on Tuesday by Alcatel-Lucent. The company said in the statement that it had signed a turnkey contract to deploy the cable system with a consortium composed of Vodafone Group, Dialog Axiata, Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat), Reliance Jio Infocomm, Omantel and Telekom Malaysia. The Bay of Bengal Gateway (BBG) cable system will enhance the robustness and reliability of international connectivity into and out of the six countries via landing points in Barka (Oman), Fujairah (UAE), Mumbai and Chennai (India), Ratmalana (Sri Lanka), Penang (Malaysia) and Singapore.
