Singapore tops in philanthropy - TODAYonline

SINGAPORE - Singapore has been rated the most philanthropic nation in Asia. According to a study by banking giant UBS and leading graduate business school INSEAD on family philanthropy in Asia, philanthropies based in Singapore made the highest proportion of international donations. The UBS-INSEAD study noted that a very substantial portion of international contributions by Singaporean families of Chinese and Indian origin flow back into China and India, respectively. Singapore is also the country in Asia with the highest percentage of grants to existing organisations - at 70 per cent - rather than family foundations. Singapore also has the highest percentage of family philanthropies - at 74 per cent - relying on professionals to manage their philanthropy, which suggests a greater professionalisation of the sector.
