Home studio: The hi-fi system is a rare sight these days as more people are opting for all-rounded home theatre

The Philips Harmony DCD8000 Hi-Fi system is not exactly the smallest form of entertainment around. Thankfully, it boasts an ample set of lungs most opera sopranos would kill to have. It comes in three separate pieces: A central unit with a built-in iPod dock and DVD reader, and two hefty speakers. Setting up the DCD8000, while not difficult, can be confusing for the tech-impaired. The menu, included in the box, eases things by providing a step-by-step, fully illustrated guide to get your system up and running as quickly as possible. The amount of customisable functions becomes apparent during the set-up: Multiple settings are available for the best quality video on your television, and preferences for the brightness of the display panel and the system language can also be tweaked.
