Tan Kin Lian: 'NSFs should be paid S$1,500, pensioners up to S$700 - and it'll come out of the reserves' #sgpresident

SINGAPORE - Full-time National Servicemen should be paid a salary of about S$1,500 a month - far higher than what they take home at present - so that serving NS is a "privilege", not a "burden", said Presidential candidate Tan Kin Lian. Speaking at a media conference this afternoon, he also put a figure on the pension scheme he had earlier mooted for the low-income elderly aged above 75. A stipend of between S$500 and S$700 a month would be sufficient to help those who had little savings, said the former NTUC Income CEO. Asked how these schemes would be paid for, he said "there is enough surplus in our reserves to do so". He said he had met many rental stall holders at the markets he had visited.
