Arsene Wenger has not been a popular man of late. In truth, he couldn’t be less popular with the average Arsenal fan if the Frenchman broke into the supporter’s house on Christmas Eve, stole all the presents and peed on the TV. Watching the mio Stadium talkback shows recently, the apathy, at best, and the uncensored, vitriolic abuse, at worst, aimed at the veteran Arsenal manager was rather like watching the Gunners play: breathtaking, compulsive viewing, but ultimately achieves very little. Wenger has to go apparently. It’s time for a change. He’s tired, outdated and unfashionable; rather like a pair of curtains. So it’s out with the old and in with the ... well ... what exactly? Gunners supporters calling for Wenger’s overthrow remind me of bedraggled, straggly-beared students sitting in the uni bar trying to recruit for the local communist party. They know what’s wrong ...
