Japan gets green in wake of nuclear crisis - Channel News Asia

JAPAN: Japan has passed a law on renewable energy that will decrease its reliance on nuclear power. This comes after concerns were raised over the safety of nuclear power generation, in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear crisis. The new bill promotes the use of solar and wind energy instead. But with more than 20 nuclear plants in the country, many are questioning if the shift away from nuclear power is realistic. A green energy park cum factory run by Sanyo Electric in Hyogo Prefecture might be the first in the world to attempt having solar panels on walls instead of just on the rooftop. Five billion yen has been invested in the park which opened last October. "This factory has limited space for the installation of solar batteries. We have a lot of equipment on the rooftop.
