Phua Poh Sim, 31, a former SAF overseas scholarship recipient who had studied in the prestigious Cambridge University, had used the money to pay off his gambling debts in 2008. The district court also heard that he would have to pay $200,000 to the SAF on his termination from the army in lieu for failing to complete his bond.
