When AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes became owner of newly-promoted Barclays Premier League side Queen's Park Rangers (QPR), a few Malaysians expressed their hope he would take star striker Safee Sali to London. Their wish could now come true, after the New Straits Times reported yesterday that Fernandes will offer two Malaysian national players, including Safee, a trial at the club after the transfer window closes on Aug 31. Fernandes acquired 70 per cent of QPR two weeks ago. The paper quoted Fernandes in his interview with local radio station Hitz.fm: "Neil Warnock (QPR manager) saw tapes of Safee and he was very impressed ... The potential for a Malaysian (player) to be noticed is much bigger now that we are here (in England)." Safee joined Indonesian Super League side Pelita Jaya from Selangor early this year.
