PE: Tan Jee Say out of running in presidential race

SINGAPORE: Presidential candidate Tan Jee Say is out of the running in the race for head of state after the votes were counted early Sunday morning. He received the second lowest number of votes in the first tally after Saturday's four-way contest for Singapore's presidency. A recount of all votes cast is currently underway after the two leading candidates, Dr Tony Tan and Dr Tan Cheng Bock, ended up with a thin margin of less than two per cent. At an impromptu news conference at Bedok Stadium, Mr Tan Jee Say thanked everyone who has supported him. He also thanked his opponents for putting up a good fight. Short of conceding defeat, Mr Tan said he wished he had more time to campaign, adding that a period of three months would have been better.
