Typhoon pounds the Philippines as it makes its way to Taiwan - TODAYonline

MANILA - A slow-moving typhoon made landfall in the Philippines yesterday, drenching most of the northern provinces and triggering landslides that killed five children and a man digging for gold, officials said. Typhoon Nanmadol unleashed strong winds that toppled trees and electricity poles, cutting off electricity in several areas. Low-lying towns and riverside villages were flooded as waterways swelled due to the continuous rains. In Pangasinan province, a landslide buried a hillside house, killing a six-year-old girl and her five-year-old brother, civil defence officials said. A rubbish dump's concrete wall collapsed in the northern mountain resort city of Baguio, burying three shanties and killing three siblings aged 10 to 15 who were swept about 300m downhill, Mayor Mauricio Domogan said.
