New citizens exercise their right to vote in election #SGPresident #SGelections

Seven months pregnant, and with her three-year-old son in tow, Ms Anita Tang showed up at an HDB block in Hougang Street 21 at 9am on Saturday, raring to exercise her voting right as a new Singaporean. The Chengdu-born IT services manager became a citizen last year, but could not vote in May's General Election as she was living in Tiong Bahru then - part of walkover constituency Tanjong Pagar GRC. For the past month, she has been keeping close tabs on the four presidential hopefuls via news reports, hoping to make her first vote count. Making her choice Dr Tony Tan, Ms Tang, 36, said: 'The president should be a unifying figure for all Singaporeans - never mind if they were born here, or are new citizens like myself.'
