SINGAPORE - For supporters of Presidential candidate Dr Tan Cheng Bock, it was a night of wildly swinging emotions as his vote count edged him into the lead and then fell behind several times over the long hours. Shortly after polling centres closed at 8pm, word of his performance at some counting centres trickled out and quickly spread online. His supporters were at first discouraged by initial word that Dr Tony Tan was in front; then thrilled by an upturn that gave their candidate a 2- to 3-per-cent lead. The night ended in a suspenseful recount and, to supporters' surprise and dismay, a shortfall of just 0.34 per cent of the votes for Dr Tan Cheng Bock.
