BlackBerry maker RIM sheds 150 staff in Singapore as part of worldwide cull

'As part of this broad effort, Research In Motion is reducing its global workforce across all functions by approximately 2,000 employees,' it read. 'All impacted employees will receive severance packages and outplacement support.' -- PHOTO: AFP By Daryl Chin About 150 workers in Singapore have lost their jobs as part of a worldwide cull by the firm that makes BlackBerry smartphones. The staff were told to pack up and go last week, numerous sources told The Straits Times. Most of them were from technical support, which handled queries from BlackBerry users around the world. It is believed that the move will cut the Singapore workforce of manufacturer Research In Motion by as much as 40 per cent. Those who are left work in areas such as marketing and sales.
