Overseas vote count for Presidential Election completed

The Elections Department said there were 3,376 overseas voters - after counting of the overseas votes for the Presidential Election was completed on Wednesday. -- ST PHOTO: NEO XIAOBIN By Andrea Ong Nearly four in 10 Singaporeans abroad voted for Dr Tony Tan as their new president, a slightly higher proportion than Singaporeans who cast their vote here in Singapore. This was revealed on Wednesday when the ballots of 3,376 Singaporeans who voted overseas on Aug 27 were counted at the People's Association headquarters in King George's Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. Of these, 38.4 per cent - or 1,296 votes - went to Dr Tony Tan. It is higher than the 35.2 per cent margin he received from votes cast locally. Dr Tan Cheng Bock also received a higher share of the votes overseas. He received 35 per cent - or 1,183 votes - from overseas voters, a tad higher than the 34.8 per cent ...
