to me, tottoos are a form of art which some people admire. Truly not many people have the courage to carry that far by inscribing the artistic pictures (in all forms and shapes) onto their bodies because, frankly speaking, it is a difficult job to erase the tattoos, if one feels that the piece of art on their bodies do not excite them anymore. In early days, people tattooed because of, I think, comraderie, like in the army to signify comradeship among the service men or in not so acceptable ways, such as gansterism in the early 50s onwards when tattooing represented the group which they belonged to or even to tell people that they were the "head" of the group and so on. Nowadays, it is art and the appreciation of it, that makes people to go for it.
